Peer Recovery Coach-Turning Point, Tipton County

The Certified Peer Recovery Coach, employed by Turning Point System of Care (a subsidiary of Jane Pauley Community Health Center), will provide peer recovery support services as defined by Medicaid regulations within the Tipton County Criminal Justice System. This position includes delivering peer-to-peer counseling, promoting recovery and resilience, navigating treatment and community resources, and coordinating care to support individuals involved in the criminal justice system. The Peer Recovery Coach will leverage personal lived experience in recovery to engage, motivate, and advocate for individuals navigating mental health and substance use recovery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Peer Support Services:

  • Utilize personal lived experience to provide peer-to-peer recovery support and mentorship.
  • Facilitate individual and group peer recovery sessions based on Medicaid-defined, trauma-informed, and evidence-based approaches.
  • Assist clients in developing individualized recovery plans and setting recovery-oriented goals.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support in coordination with the treatment team and criminal justice system.

Navigation and Care Coordination:

  • Connect clients with appropriate treatment services, community resources, and social supports.
  • Actively assist individuals in navigating healthcare systems, benefits, and social services.
  • Provide reentry support by coordinating with housing, employment, healthcare providers, and social service agencies.

Collaboration and Community Integration:

  • Work collaboratively with criminal justice personnel including probation officers, correctional staff, attorneys, and judges.
  • Advocate for recovery-oriented alternatives to incarceration such as diversion and treatment programs.
  • Participate in case conferences and interdisciplinary team meetings to represent peer and client perspectives.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation consistent with Medicaid and organizational guidelines.
  • Ensure confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA regulations and professional ethical standards.

Training and Professional Development:

  • Attend required trainings and participate in continuous professional development to maintain certification.
  • Stay informed about current best practices in peer support and substance use/mental health treatment.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) or Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) recognized by the State of Indiana.
  • Minimum two years of sustained personal recovery from substance use or mental health conditions.
  • Familiarity with criminal justice systems and experience working with justice-involved individuals is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, advocacy, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

Computer Skills:

  • Moderate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Electronic Health Records (EHR), and related applications.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and operate office equipment.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based within criminal justice settings.
  • Noise level is typically moderate; may occasionally encounter stressful environments.
