Float Medical Assistant – CMA/RMA

Job Summary: Float Medical Assistant

The Float Medical Assistant will room patients, obtain vitals, perform EKG's, monitor patient phone calls, coordinate referrals, administer injections, assist the Physician or Advanced Practice Provider with minor procedures and other duties as assigned. The Float Medical Assistant will be available to assist the entire JPCHC network in the event of staffing shortages at any site. The Float Medical Assistant must have reliable transportation to travel to and from Practice sites for periodic coverage.

Summary of Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Properly prepares exam rooms for patient care by ensuring the room is properly stocked and cleaned.
  • Monitors patient phone calls, receives and routes test results for provider review, and collects data regarding patient medications.
  • Rooms patients, checks vital signs, and assesses patient needs to communicate with provider.
  • Administration of injections and vaccines for adults and pediatric patients.
  • Assists provider with patient procedures as directed by the provider.
  • Communicates effectively both written and orally with patients, patients’ families, coworkers, and other outside entities.
  • Completes routine forms for patients as appropriate.
  • Ensures chart documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) is correctly completed in timely manner.
  • Performs lab tests as directed by provider, prepares specimens, operates lab equipment, and maintains laboratory documentation in accordance with CLIA standards and practice specific protocols.
  • Reconciles billing from offsite labs by comparing daily lab log with patient EHR.
  • Schedules offsite diagnostic tests and communicates effectively with patients.
  • Facilitates referral processes for patients as needed.
  • Takes manual inventory of drugs.
  • Performs front office duties as needed.
  • Adheres to all JPCHC policies and procedures.
  • Perform all duties as assigned by service line job description addendum.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification (CMA) or Registration (RMA) required
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider (BLS) required
  • Graduate from accredited ABHES or CAAHEP Medical Assistant program
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA.
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures.
  • Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills.
  • 3 years of experience in an ambulatory care setting preferred
  • Proficiency with VFC, CHIRP, and VOMS strongly preferred
