Job Summary:

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides psychiatric care including the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic health conditions. Promotes a healthy lifestyle and involves the patient in his/her plan of care with emphasis placed on patient self-determination and maximization of client knowledge to enhance care of oneself. The PMHNP will provide a full range of primary health care services, using independent decision-making about healthcare needs.

Summary of Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Formulating a comprehensive data base by physical and psychological health history, physical examination, and evaluation of laboratory diagnostic testing, as indicated.
  • Discerning between normal and abnormal findings in planning treatment interventions.
  • Collaborates significant abnormal findings with other care providers.
  • Synthesizing complex clinical data in order to formulate, implement and evaluate a nursing management plan for individuals.
  • Modeling interdisciplinary collaboration with other health care professionals to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient/client outcomes.
  • Instructing patients, families/significant others in the acquisition of information related to health and wellness.
  • Initiating and implementing appropriate consultations and referrals.
  • Maintaining and expanding current knowledge base regarding advanced practice nursing.
  • Develop specific health programs for the community.
  • Providing formal presentations to the community and other health professionals.
  • Assisting to collect clinical data.
  • Demonstrating clinical practice that reflects research based foundation.
  • Disseminates research findings.
  • Identifies work processes and strives to reduce cost and increase satisfaction
  • Identifies customers and demonstrates understanding of customers’ expectation.
  • Actively works to increase patient and employee satisfaction.
  • Monitors customers’ satisfaction
  • Takes active role in department process improvement efforts; demonstrates understanding of outcomes
  • Demonstrates an understanding of responsibilities
  • Demonstrates diagnostic thinking/reasoning
  • Utilizes feedback from peers, supervisor, customers to drive performance and behaviors
  • Prioritizes workplace safety
  • Advanced clinical practice to enhance the quality of patient/client care
  • Education of the patient, family, staff and the community
  • Development of health promotion programs
  • Assisting with data collection

Education and/or Experience:

  • Master of Science Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing with National Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
  • Current Indiana Nurse Practitioner License and current Indiana Registered Nurse License.
  • ANCC or AANP Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
  • At least one year of experience in a Mental Health compacity.
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current CSR and DEA certification
  • Educational background consistent with requirements for licensure and certification within the state of Indiana
  • Demonstrate a high level of expert skill in delivering exceptional quality of care while enhancing the wellness of the patient
